The renovation of the historic Franklin School was a challenge that Valid Electric was primed to undertake. The building was constructed in 1869 and registered as a National Historical Landmark; however, it had been vacant since 2008. Valid Electric was tasked with the electrical renovation to help bring the defunct building back to life as the new Planet Word. Planet Word is Washington DC’s first language museum. The scope of work included demolition and installation of complete electrical system consisting of new incoming service, building power distribution, museum lighting, DMX lighting controls, and fire alarm system. From early on, we helped the GC to manage this project by assisting with preconstruction budgeting services. This project was featured in Local 26’s INCharge magazine (vol.13, no. 2).
Renovation and Addition

Valid Electric performed the complete electrical renovation of approx. 100,000sq ft of the existing Baltimore Center Stage theatre building that was once used by Loyola College Preparatory School. Parts of this historic building date back to as early as 1855. Electrical upgrades included a completely new power distribution system with extensive lighting and theatrical power requirements for the Head Theatre. We installed over 100,000 feet of conduit for the various theatrical, A/V, lighting, fire alarm and power systems throughout the four-story renovation. BIM coordination was utilized for this project. The Building Congress & Exchange (BC&E) recognized our craftsmanship for power generation, distribution, and switchgear.
Theatre Renovation

Valid Electric was awarded the renovation of the approx. 10,000 GSF unused auditorium space to provide staff and students of CCPCS with a state-of-the-art Theatre. We provided new lighting, A/V and fire alarm for the 420-seat theatre. Previously, the school did not have a dedicated Theatre and had to utilize the cafeteria which lacked the space, lighting, and acoustics necessary for an authentic theatrical experience.

For the new construction of George Mason University’s Hylton Performing Arts Center at their Prince William County Campus, Valid Electric provided the electrical power distribution, stage lighting, general lighting, lighting controls, fire alarm, low voltage wiring, and raceways. Extensive coordination was required with Stage Lighting Consultants, Lighting Designer, and A/E for the major electrical infrastructure of the two theatre stages. The main Merchant Hall stage included 1,123 seats on four levels. The smaller Gregory Family theater included seating for up to 270 attendees.
